Another!

Well I've started, or rather continued working on the sequel to Regenesis (which still lacks an English title) and things are moving smoothly. I still don't have any idea about when the sequel will come out though.

The paperback version of Regenesis is still forthcoming, as I'm trying to weed out the last of the spelling and grammar errors I missed that have been brought to my attention recently via readers (thanks again to all those who have helped point out those mistakes.) But starting now my main priority (in terms of writing) is this sequel. (Reminding all that I've put Together on hold until further notice.)

And I wanted to mention that there are already a few reviews on Amazon that are all very thoughtful and wonderful. I'm grateful and amazed that so many people like this book. It's still unreal that Regenesis is finally out in the world and that people other than friends and family I've guilt-tripped into reading it are enjoying the book.

But something I'm interested in is to hear from the readers even more so that just those reviews. So if there are any questions I'd like to encourage anyone and everyone to feel free to ask them. Feel free to comment here or through Facebook, or whatever.

Anyways, back to work! More to come (and possibly even the dang website if I find the time this weekend!)

So much for NaNoWriMo...

The whole 'write a novel in one month' thing didn't pan out as well as I thought it would. I've been too torn between writing the sequel to Regenesis and writing this new novel, Together, which is unrelated to the other series.

Let me start by stating that the sequel to Regenesis is actually already twenty-two chapters complete, or rather, written out. There are a lot of changes that need to happen now, as I've changed quite a bit in Regenesis, but overall the process shouldn't be too overbearing. I actually hope to have the sequel out on the Kindle and in paperback format by Thanksgiving of next year...so assuming I can remain on task and focused in on this next book, it'll be in your hands then. After that though, it might take me a bit longer to write and publish the third novel in the series (which reminds me, there are going to be five in all, unless there's enough of a response for a prequel for a few characters...not going to say who just now).

Together on the other hand is an entirely different novel. It's much more low key; there are no murders, no capes and tights, and no serial killers. Together is a novel about a man who moves to Seattle from the Tri-Cities to recover after the end of his engagement to his girlfriend of four years. The main character, Mark, begins to heal when he meets a young woman named Claire who quickly becomes enthralled with Mark and forces herself into his life. Together is about how Mark and Claire use one another for selfish reasons all while they do their best to restore their own disjointed love lives. This book will also be about a fourth the size of Regenesis and quite possibly the closest thing I'll ever write that could be classified as a romance novel. But like I said earlier, Together might end up on the back burner if I remain torn between it and the sequel, considering the other is already partly finished.

I think I'll give it a few more weeks and if Together doesn't take off I'll move on.

And by the by, Regenesis has had a fairly warm reception so far, and I would love to know what others think of the book too! (And if they felt so inclined they could also write a brief review on Amazon too...just sayin').

It's over 9000!!! (Not Really)

The promotion period ends tonight around midnight and as of right now Regenesis has been downloaded over 675 times. I never expected this level of reception and support and I am extremely grateful to all of you who downloaded it and shared it with your friends and family.

It's a bit frightening knowing that there are nearly 700 people in the world who have my novel at their fingertips and will have open and honest opinions about it. Fortunately I've only heard good things thus far, though I know inevitably someone will not like it and I'll catch wind of that. It's odd. I never wrote this book to make anyone happy other than myself but I care so deeply about how it is received, though my assumption is that I perceive the reception of the novel as a reflection of everyone's recognition of who I am personally, (which in almost every instance would be crazy, right?) But that saying about the author being a part of their story and their characters is true. I know exactly what part of myself is in each and every single figure in the novel.

Anyway, work on the sequel hasn't picked up yet and won't until December because I'm writing another book right now (which I may or may not have mentioned in my last entry, I can't remember.) This book, entitled Together, will probably be the closest thing I'll ever write that verges on romance (even though it isn't a romance novel). Together is more so about recovering than love, but that'll be a discussion for another time and another post.

The freebie period for Regenesis ends tonight around midnight, so I'm crossing my fingers that the total number of downloads pushes past 700. Thank you again to everyone for their support through all of this.

(...and in case anyone has tried to go to the website printed at the end of my book, the one that should lead to my website...well it doesn't exist yet, so be patient and as soon as it's live you'll be the first to know.)

Done!

After five years of writing, editing, waiting, rewriting, deleting, rewriting, and waiting, I finally wrapped Regenesis up. It's out in digital format only at the moment, though in the coming weeks I will begin to sell paperback versions for the traditionalists and those who do not own Kindles. And to sweeten things even more, Regenesis is free through November 6th.

I started this book back when I was a senior at Bothell High and back then it was a very, very crappy idea on a five dollar notebook. But it was important nonetheless, even in that raw and terribly poor form. This book went through about four revision processes and I rewrote the book three times in the space of that five year span, simply because at the end of each edit I realized the book was not right, or that it was too imperfect. That same feeling returned in the past few weeks and it took a very large amount of willpower to keep me from repeating that process. But Regenesis is as perfect as I could make it and I feel it's high time I move on to the next part in the series (and I promise it won't take another five years).

But all in all, I still can't believe it's finished. Maybe it's because the paperback copies aren't here yet or maybe it's because I don't own a Kindle and I can't see it right before my own eyes (my wife lets me peek at hers from time to time), but this experience feels incomplete somehow. And yet I've already sold (or sold and given away) one-hundred and seventy copies today alone (with nearly twenty from overseas in the UK), which excites and terrifies me. The reviews aren't in yet and that's given me reason enough to figuratively chew my fingernails to shreds. I am amazed and grateful for all of the support, especially given how reserved and guarded I've remained over these past five years.

And I just found out that it's ranked #40 in the sci-fi freebies category on Amazon and #1277 in the overall freebies category. So that's awesome.

'Regenesis' Towards the End

Well this is really (hopefully) going to be the first post from here on out. At this moment I don't expect anyone to read this, but I need to start now so I can get into the habit once my novel is actually posted.

So the plan is to have Regenesis, my first novel, polished, wrapped up, and published on the Amazon Kindle Marketplace at the end of this month of August. I think that's bollocks and think early September is really when this will be out there, knowing me and how much of a perfectionist I am, especially in regard to something I am so deeply invested in and passionate about.

Regenesis has been finished, story-wise, for nearly four years. I spent the last three years working alongside a great agent searching for a publisher, to no avail. I've decided to part ways with her and jump head first into self publishing, which is something I've resisted for years. I once said to myself that I would never allow my work to be self published, but in this age I feel it might be the only sensible solution (seeing how many publishing houses are now looking at independently published authors as potential candidates for the future).

In any case, I do feel it is time for me to stop picking and changing and altering my work and just simply release it to the world, for better or worse (or worse, or worse). I know through the years many people have expressed an interest in reading what I've written (genuine or otherwise) and soon enough they will have that opportunity. I'm quite excited for it and absolutely terrified in the same breath.

There's a lot of last minute revisions and a few cosmetic changes and creations that still need to take place, but all in all, Regenesis is hungry for an audience and I feel it's time to unleash it. I'll update here and on the Twitterverse and Facebook once I have a more concrete idea of when the novel will be live and available for purchase. Until then, back to the grind!
